The Beklierde Eyebright

The beklierde Eyebright (Euphrasia rostkoviana) is a plant in the broomrape family (Orobanchaceae). The species is on the Dutch Red List of plants as very rare and very much reduced in number. It is found in France except the Mediterranean everywhere. The plant elsewhere in Europe as in Germany and Austria.


Beklierde eyebright is half parasite on grasses and cypergrassen. The roots of the plant absorb water and salts to the roots of other plants, but the plant itself is capable of photosynthesis.


The plant is found in grassland on calcareous soil.


Beklierde eyebright is an annual plant, 10-25 cm high and filled with many long hairy. The plant blooms from May to September, with white flowers, often a light purple upper lip and a yellow stain on the lower lip have.
