The seed-pea (Lathyrus sativus) is an ancient crop from the legume family (Fabaceae).

The seed-pea is an annual plant with strong roots. Their stems are prostrate or climbing, and are 15-60, rarely 100 cm long. They are branched, take 0.5 to 1.5 mm wide wings are broad and with these 4-6 mm. The petioles are also winged, wide (1 to 2.5 mm). All leaves have a Fiederpaar, the upper leaves simple or more often branched tendrils. The leaflets are 2.5 to 15 cm long, 3 to 7 mm wide, while a minimum of 3 times as long as wide. Their shape is lineal-lanceolate to elliptic, they have 5 to 7 distinct, and several thin Längsnerven. The stipules are 10-20 mm long and 2-5 mm wide and lanceolate to halbpfeilförmiger shape.

The flowers are in bloom mostly grapes and stalks are short. The grapes axis is 3 to 6 cm long, dominated the leaf stalk and ends in a short awn. The bract is like scales. The calyx is hairless. The sepals are lanceolate, each nearly equal in length and 2 - to 3 times as long as the short calyx tube. The crown is 12-24 mm long and different colors: mostly it is white with a bluish veins, less often pink or bluish. Wings, boats and stylus are rotated to the left, so that the flower is highly asymmetric.

The pods are 25-40 mm long, 10-18 mm wide. They are ovate to rhomboid, flat, barren and netznervig. Its color is straw-colored, they have a back seam and two-leaf contain 2-5 seeds. These are 70-10 (rarely 15) mm long, 5-9 mm wide and 4-6 mm high, are edgy and have the form of an ax. The surface is smooth and colored differently, they often have brown spots. The umbilicus is elliptical, 1.5 to 2 mm long.
