Funkiasläktet (cough) is a genus in the family agaveväxter with about 45 species. They are primarily found in Japan but also in eastern Russia, Korea, and China. Genus is among the most popular garden plants and are grown for their beautiful leaves. Thousands of varieties have emerged in horticulture. The genus is a bit odd and isolated systematically. It has moved between several different families and also had found their own family, funkiaväxter (Hostaceae).

Funkiasläktets species are perennial herbs with large corms, which sometimes produces offshoots. The leaves are numerous, basal and spiral consolidated with long petiole. The heads have a few reduced leaves and each flower has a green or white bracts. The flowers are bisexual and sits alone (rarely 2-3) in the cluster on short stalks. The crown is composed of six fused hylleblad, it is white or purple, tube to the bell or trumpet shaped. The fruit is a capsule trerummig.

Systematics
Systematic genus is difficult. Many of the earliest described species has proven to be cultivated plants of unknown origin is often complex and is now considered to be varieties, rather than natu species.
